Fish Mox, Fish Zole, & Other Fish Antibiotics

April 18th, 2011

Chances are, if you have a biorb or some other type of fish tank for long enough you have had at least one of your fish get sick.  Some people don’t get attached to fish, but others treat them like part of their family, and are devastated when a fish gets sick or dies, especially if the fish is their child’s pet.

There are a lot of different fish medications you can try depending on what your fish has, different types of sicknesses respond to different types of medicine.  Some useful medicines for fish are fish antibiotics, such as Fish Mox, Fish Zole, & Fish Flex.  These antibiotics are over the counter and made and sold for aquarium and fish use.  They are manufacturered by Thomas Labs, a pet pharmeceutical company that has been around for over 30 years.

Fish Zole is often used in discus and other fish that get hole in head disease.  The main ingredient in fish zole is metronidazole and it is also useful against a number of pathogentic bacteria associated with ornamental fish diseases, including areomonas and pseudomonas genera and mysobacterial group (gill diseases, chondrococcus). It is useful in the control of “Hole-in-the-Head” and “Angel Problems” in Cichlid and Discus.

These fish antibiotics are sold at a number of online retailers and can be bought in different quantities.  So the next time your fish gets sick see if one of these medicines might help your fish and find a reputable place to buy them.

Some fish are really expensive, and after you’ve had a fish for a while its easy to get attached to them and if they get a bacterial infection it can be devastating, especially if you have children.  There are lots of different medications on the market for treating fish illnesses and this post discusses some of the Fish Antibiotics made for aquarium and fish use, specifically Fish MoxFish FlexFish Zole, & Fish Pen.

Fish Mox -

Fish Mox is Amoxicillin and is sold in two strengths, 250 mg, which is called fish mox, and 500 mg which is called Fish Mox Forte.  Fish Mox is used to treat common bacterial infections in aquariums and for other fish illnesses.  It can be bought through multiple pet retailers online and is much cheaper than going to a vet for a prescription of the same strength amoxicillin…I’m not sure I’ve ever even heard of someone going to the vet for a pet fish.
